Level II → Neuroradiology

ESOR for EDiR Webinars: Neuroradiology (part 1) - 2014 (284A)

Description
Video-based course (recorded 2014)

Speaker: Luc Van den Hauwe (Antwerp, Belgium)

"CNS trauma"
Learning objectives:
• to review the imaging strategy and corresponding imaging patterns in patients with acute craniocerebral and/or maxillofacial and/or spinal trauma
• to learn about the imaging characteristics of intracranial haemorrhage by CT and MR
• to understand the relevant imaging findings in patients with spinal trauma
• to identify imaging findings that are critical for the patient´s prognosis

"Imaging in brain tumours"
Learning objectives:
• to understand that the topography of a lesion determines management (and prognosis) and to learn how to differentiate intra-axial from extra-axial tumours
• to review the imaging characteristics in various of primary tumours, both intra- and extra-axial
• to be informed about the best imaging strategy for metastatic lesions in the brain
• to illustrate the value of new imaging techniques for the diagnosis and follow-up of brain tumours

Speaker: Majda M. Thurnher (Vienna, Austria)

"CNS infections: a road map from imaging to pathogen"
Learning objectives:
• to be familiar with the specific imaging patterns of bacterial, viral, fungal, parasitic and prion infections
• to be able to recognise meningitis and related complications
• to differentiate intracerebral abscess from metastases or necrotic tumour (value of advanced imaging techniques)
• to review the scope of infections in immunosuppressed patients (AIDS, post transplantations)

"White matter diseases: demyelinating diseases, dementia and aging brain"
Learning objectives:
• to illustrate the imaging appearance of multiple sclerosis (brain and spine) and to learn how to differentiate MS from other demyelinating conditions
• to describe the changes occuring in the ageing brain: atrophy, focal hyperintensities in the white matter, iron deposition, etc.
• to introduce advanced imaging techniques fo rthe study of white matter lesions and aging brain
